Hey Bagman!!!
Just wanted to join your site. My girlfriend and I devoted 2 months to bowfin fishing this summer. We travled around the state of New York sleeping in my car with a canoe on the roof for 7 straight weeks. I really like to fish for bowfin and I have a few secret rigs the no one has thought of yet. We Target only large bowfin. Pictures will follow soon.

Just discovered bowfin, I've caught 4 so far and fought with another 10. I don't know why some people think that this is a trash fish. I have a lot of fun catching these fish

I have been fly fishing 40yrs and my favorite fish to go for with a fly rod is the Bow!Gar are not far behind. Other fish may pay hard to get ,but the Bow loves to play. These special fish deserves to be released to fight another day.Its hard to replace a fighter like this that measure a yard long.

Hi guy, remember me~?? I know it's been a long while since I was here. I was just doing and internet search on "me" to see if my website was showing up in search engines... and I ran across the old Katrina Post on here from 8-30-2005.

Wow, that sure brought back memories: Good and Bad ones.

Gary and I are still residing in central Louisiana since Katrina. I completed all my breast cancer treatments here and should be fine now, God willing. We are in a very small town, out in the woods in a small apartment complex.

No work around here, so we started up our Gar Scale Jewelry business again. I was able to salvage some very muddy gar scales and hides from our place in Slidell (3 weeks after the storm). That's how we have been surviving for the past 4 years. I've also added Antler Jewelry and Sea Glass Jewelry to my handcrafted jewelry.

My website is the same, I'm also selling on Bonanzle.com and Esty and Ebay.
I've also lowered my Website prices, to adjust to the slow economy. http://www.ccss.us

I have a Discount Coupon set up on Bonanzle. When you check out, use Coupon Code GAR to get 25% OFF anything you buy.

Well, back to work. Just wanted to say "Hi" and thank you all for the help back then. Remember me if you need a nice, custom gift. Yes, I can still make gar scale jewelry with YOUR picture. Later, Good Fishin', Dianne Ulery

Dear Chuck, aka Bag Master!

My name is Rory O, My Girlfriend Liz and I spend 1-3 months each summer camping and fishing for bowfin. I am not comfortable revealing my secret spots just yet(not till I knock out at least one state record). I will tell you that I am from Pennsylvania( I do not however spend anytime on fishing for Bowfin inside of PA's Borders)......anyway We fished from June 25th until August 1st non-stop straight through this summer, all day, everyday, landing only 17 bowfin between the two of us. However, the smallest of our Amia Calva vacation was 26" long and 6 and 1/2 pounds. The largest........ well, as usual they broke off! Many, many state records hooked and lost this summer. Believe it or not, I will send some pictures of the biggest ones landed 10#+'s!, when I get some time. You Need some pictures of some ladies and some Bowfin, so I'm gonna send you a few. Might take a little bit. Anyway Chuck please E-Mail me. we have much to discuss......

Since Sunday just passed I have seen 3 live Bowfin. I caught one Sunday, it snapped my line the first time, an hour later, with a whole white perch on another hook, the same fish got landed, and I was stunned to see my other hood still in its mouth. These things are incredible. I took my friend Joey Christianson yesterday, Oct. 26,09 and he landed two Bowfin, larger than the one I had caught. The first he landed snapped the line once on land, and wiggled six feet back to the pond. The second one Joey caught was also released after we video and photographed it. This last Bowfin Joey caught was 28 inches long, despite it's tail being nipped off I guess by a turtle, and this fish was over 14 inches around. Our scale went up to 8 lbs. This fish pegged the scale instantly. I sent one video to you guys, hope you are able to extract a frame from it. I have tons more. The pond was tiny! And filled will all varietys of fresh water fish of all sizes. So I presume that myth of Bowfin eating everything in the pond is B.S. as we caught ten good size white perch, sun fish, and large mouth bass. Even two good size male Blue Crabs! The pond drains into salt water, very strange place to fish. Ive never seen anyting like it.

I am "The Cajun Cat". I grew up in south Louisiana and our favorite fish was and always will be the choupic (shoe pick). I live in Clarksville, TN now but believe you me I still catch my fair share of the soon to be notorious choupic. I have recipes from fried, smoked, baked, and some of the best crochet patties you will sink your teeth into. As a kid I always was taught that choupic was a Louisiana thing. But were we wrong. I moved to Savannah, GA in 2001 and was describing this fish we southern Louisiana folk call a choupic to a co-worker and he said that he had caught a similar fish by accident on several occasions and they called it a mudfish and it was considered a trash fish, used in their gardens for fertilizer. Now us true anglers know that the word choupic is Indian terminology for mudfish. So I got excited. I said tell me where have you caught such a fish. Remember I am a south Louisiana boy and can catch a choupic almost at will. Email me to here the rest of my story. "Les le bon temps roulle"
